Vote Tuesday, June 12, in the Democratic Primary Election for Supervisor
Issues: Recreation

Providence has an urgent shortage of all types of recreational space--fields, woods and trails. The playing field shortage has been worsened by outdated policies that limit the access of recreational leagues even at existing fields.

After opposing a proposal to cut down four acres of trees in a popular wooded trail at Nottoway Park, Charlie initiated efforts to create a dialogue between athletic leagues and trail users.

Charlie and athletic league leaders have worked closely together to seek change in restrictive field use policies and to expand the use of artificial turf in order to allow more game time per field for Providence District children. Charlie will work to get a turfed field for Little League baseball, to continue funding of cross-county bicycle trails, and to fund an indoor adult athletic facility.

In addition, he will seek greater open space in new urban high-rise developments to accommodate the outdoor recreational needs of the residents. He will work with the Park Authority to reverse the misguided plan approved in 2005 to destroy four acres of trees at Nottoway Park.
