Vote Tuesday, June 12, in the Democratic Primary Election for Supervisor
Issues: Transportation

Across Providence District, traffic gridlock is creeping further into our neighborhoods. The Board of Supervisors has disregarded their stated goal of balancing land use with a supporting transportation network.

Their consistent approval of high-density land use projects-such as those at Vienna Metro West, Merrifield, and Tysons-without requiring the parallel roadway improvements, only adds more cars to our already gridlocked streets.

It's time to quit blaming the Commonwealth for local decisions that are diminishing our quality of life and to start demonstrating some accountability.

Charlie strongly supports:

  • The tunnel option for Tysons Metrorail, in order to create a liveable, walkable community.

  • Evaluating traffic impacts before approving new density, and tying new development to the completion of transit and pedestrian/bicycle improvements.

  • An objective cost study of all suburban transit technologies, to determine the best strategy for creating a countywide rapid transit network

As a participant in the public process, Charlie has experienced and witnessed citizen voices being shut out of land use and transit decisions. The elected Board must do a better job of listening and framing a vision for our community's future. Charlie is listening.
